PESTICIDES

Pesticides are products which control, mitigate or reduce pests including insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, miticides, rodenticides, wood preservatives and antimicrobials.

REGULATION

Pesticides are regulated under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act and Regulations which are administered by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Health Canada. Maximum residue limits (MRLs) for pesticide residues in food are established as required under the Food and Drug Act and Regulations (Part B - Foods Divisions 15-16 - Tables) administered by Health Canada. Pesticides contained in fertilizer products are regulated under the Pest Control Products Act and Regulations; the combined fertilizer plus pesticide product is regulated under the Fertilizers Act and Regulations under authority of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
